I heard that there has never been a player drafted from high school, but I dont believe it...Players get drafted from other sports right out of high school, so why not in football?

No, NCAA rules mandate that an athlete stays in college, or spends two years out of high school. I'm sure someone will be able to elaborate on the specifics of the rule.

It's against the NFL rules.
By the way, a player does NOT have to play for a college. He can sit doing nothing for 2 or 3 years (I forgot which it is) after high school and then play in NFL, if he is good enough (it's the age, not experience matter.)

The NFL has strict rules forbidding any team from drafting a player directly from high school. And it is a good rule. There never has, nor ever will be, a high school player who could physically compete with NFL players.

Never happened. NFL won't take a chance on someone without having proven themselves a bit in college. Football is a much more complex game than baseball or basketball, which is why a high schooler would never have a prayer in the NFL. They need time to mature and get seasoned.

age has nothing to do with it.the rules say you must be out of high school for 3 years before you can be eligible which to me is a b.s. rule because you had two kids who challenged this rule and lost because they werent out long enough and had to wait till they were 20 years old yet the dolphins drafted a kid this year that was only 19 but was deemed eligible because he graduated high school early.if there is going to be a rule it needs to be an age rule not how long youve been out of school.

also eric swann didnt attend college and went to the nfl after a scout for the cardinals saw him playing semi pro ball and dominating his league.

It cannot happen. By NFL rules, which have been upheld in court, a prospective draftee has to be at least three years removed from HS (or three years after the date they should have graduated if they dropped out). Otherwise, they are not even eligible to have their name put into the draft.

No. It's against the rules to draft until 3 years after graduating high school...the last person to challenge this was Maurice Clarett. The reason is because the vast vast majority of kids are WAAAY to small to play pro ball and would get crushed. All except kickers...but most of them are too small too. By the way...Maurice Clarret is an idiot.

I would add that most other Sports are not as full contact as NFL football. Hockey is, but the players are on skates so physics tells us the hit is not as hard. They slide on ice which lessens the impact, but they don't have too many 350lb hockey players either.

Yes there has been. I just do not remember their names. It's only been like 2 or 3 players ever though. Not very often!
