I just published my first book of poetry, "Poetically Shaun: an Epiphany". I am not completely thrilled with my publishing contract, but alas, the book is actually on the market. At this stage, I need to push hard to market the book myself. Can anyone suggest the best way to market my book? I plan to do book signings, I plan to pass out flyers, I have a website (through yahoo), but I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Please help.

Word of mouth. Join a poetry club (or start one) contact your local library to see if you can give readings and/or leave your book, mention it at church, school and any clubs you're in. If you're near a college, see if they need guest speakers or maybe have a writer's club. (Find a writer's club in your state.)
Good luck.

Why don't you ask your friends and family to spread the word? I'm sure they'd be glad to do so. =)
