or sometimes we need to STARE straight at the DARK?

Looking at the bright side is always a positive attitude. It's where the hope and faith shine well than anywhere else. But glancing at the dark is somewhat essential too to get acquainted with life's scale of balance. Dark sides can supply us with some answers we need so we can handle things more cautiously and can do adjustments or modifications in our plans.
On the other hand, staring at darkness for a long period of time may impair our vision to recognize reality from absurdity, causing us to totally withdraw from our light side, and submit ourselves to its habitat of danger.
We can't allow to get stuck in there because if we do, our "mental bulb" may not work for us anymore...and our life will be in complete harmony with darkness.

Looking at the brighter side is a good attitude but sometimes there is a need to stare staight ar the dark because too much brightness might lead to blindness and instead we can no longer see the bright future we wanted to be.

Interesting question!

There is not sight through the darkness, its the light that brings on the brightness of the day and turns night into sight.

Even if the world is falling about you, eventually it will stop and then the harmony and peace you are lacking will come flowing in.

Always look on the bright side, for the rest is not without it.

We should "try" to look at the bright side as it reflects our best characteristics and even determines how we treat others on a daily basis. At this moment, I stare almost exclusively in the dark--bordering on insanity. I am very unhappy right now, and if I had it my way I would prefer to live in total darkness so I could best appreciate the glimmers of light. The loss of love is one of the most remarkable negatives we tend to face as human beings. I can acquaint it with the darkness of existing within a coccoon. It's lonely, but it's safe and shields us from personal injury and emotional harm.

Looking at the dark side serves the purpose of avoiding disappointed. If you look on the bright side, you could be disappointed, hurt or otherwise be affects. People sometimes do this to avoid those outcomes.

When you plan for the worst, it often ends up happening.

The dark is merely a judgment about what exists and is often incorrect anyway.

In order to SEE we must look to the light or the bright side, for there is no light in darkness. And we will not see if we but stare at the darkness.

That said, to stare at the darkness is not without worth. But do not stare at the dark and hope to SEE. No, stare at the dark and feel, rest, commune, stretch, grow, imagine, challenge and be challenged.

Where there is light, there will always be shadows cast. Such is the balance of life; so in equilibrium, the forces of nature.

Although one would surely be better to face the light, one needs also to remember the shadow that coexists behind. When moving forward into the light, always the shadow soon follows. But to ignore the shadow completely, certainly we should not. For everything that exists, there must be a reason; and everything in existence is worth being mindful of.

When brightness represents Hope, the darkness does not always represent absolute Hopelessness. Only that one should remember when moving forward, it may prove folly to leave lessons learnt from before, irrevocably and eternally behind…

I think sometimes we need to stare straight at the dark to know the worst that could happen and prepare for it. I always look at the bright side, but also plan for the worst. It's best to be able to handle anything, when possible.

I have had to look very closely at my dark side. To not do so is really just equal to repression. Something does not cease to be just because we refuse to see it. By really looking at it, I am able to determine if there is any thing of value, or not. The process of acceptance must begin with recognition of it all, the good, the bad & the really, really ulgy. Then I make an informed decision instead of just playing make believe I am a certain way while I continue to hide from myself. This is how self knowledge proceeds, otherwise it is just fantasy. Beyond myself & into the world is no different. It is just easier to talk from this perspective.

Should we always look at the bright side, you asked? I would say that sometimes when there is a problem that has no solution, I would always try to look at the bright side of it, so the weight of it would alleviate me somewhat, and I always find a solution to the problem at hand. There is no point in giving up you will not accomplish anything in doing that.
