figger out how you'll keep that plastic OFF the palm tree!!!... any part of the plastic that touches any part of the plant and the cold will be transferred to the plant and it will die off anyways..... think about making a sort of frame with pvc pipes and make it tall enuff to not touch the tree... THEN put plastic over that.... depending on where you live, you might need to look at a small heater for the very cold times... and be sure to leave a way to let the heat out on the nice days..... you'll be making a greenhouse, right?.... leave a way to water , too....

if you're in a warm area in winter, why do you need to protect them?.... can you bring them into the house if you're not in a warm area?... too big?... that's where mine go... in zone 7....

You can find drop-cloths at Home Centers, but, I would advise going with a heavier grade plastic. By the middle of winter you will be replacing it. You also need to watch the temps so you can allow air flow when the temps get unseasonably high.
