I am having the EMG test for carpal tunnel in one hand and wrist. Does this hurt? I am fine with needles but the electrical shocks do not sould too spiffy. Has anyone had this done in their hand? On a scale of 1-10 (7 being a bee sting) how bad does this test hurt? I thought it was a Nerve conduction test but they said EMG. A friend of mine said it was a ----.

Isn't that a brain function test? They just hook electrodes up to your head.

If you Google "EMG test", you will learn that only some of the testing involves tiny shocks. On your scale, I would think maybe a 2 or 3. Why not phone your doctor and ask him, or phone the EMG lab itself?

I work in a physical therapy office and have seen folks that have had that procedure as well, it is not supposed to hurt alot, if it does then you need to let them know, we do alot of electrical stimulation and it doesn't hurt, it massages the muscles and loosens them right up, hope it goes well!!
