First, you need to multiple the 5 through the parentheses:

5t-15-2t

Then, you want to reduce where possible:

5t-2t-15=

3t-15

This could also be expressed as

3(t-5)

But I think the first answer is preferable.

SOLVE
First set = 5(t-3)-2t=0
Multiply...and get 5t-15-2t = 0
Subtract <5t-2t>....and get 3t -15 = 0
Add 15 to each side and get... 3t = 15
Divide each side by 3 and get... t = 5
PROOF
Substiute 5 for t and get...5(5-3)-2x5=0
subtract in () and get... 5 (2) - 2 x 5 = 0
Multilpy and get... 10 - 10 = 0
0 = 0

First: eliminate parenthesis - distribute the outer term with the terms in parenthesis.

5(t) + 5(- 3) - 2t
5t + (- 15) - 2t
5t - 15 - 2t

Sec: combine "like" terms - combine terms with the same variable.

5t - 2t - 15 = 3t - 15

Distrubute the 5. Combine the "t" terms to simplify.
