LSU destroyed every team they played so far and ran over the top ranked D in the nation for the last 2 years. USC beat a team that only beat Wake Forest by 3 points. LSU beat the crap out of Mid. Tenn. with their second string quarterback and without their star reciever. So if anyone thinks that USC is the best team. i think they should change the channel for 5 seconds and watch a real team play football (LSU)!!!!

College football fans don't appear to be quibbling much over who the nation's top four NCAA clubs are.

The gambling specific BGS Power Ratings list LSU as the nations top college football team, followed by Oklahoma in second with USC 3rd & Florida 4th.

Professional Handicappers League members Jerry Johnson and Jimmy Boyd totally concur with the Associated Press' current opinion poll that has Southern Cal on top, followed by LSU.

AP has defending national champion Florida in third, slightly ahead of Oklahoma.

Boyd would reverse that, while Johnson chacterizes third and fourth as a coin flip.

The Las Vegas Hilton has USC and LSU at 9/5 and 5/1 respectively to win the 2008 BCS Championship Jan. 8 in New Orleans.

The Trojans are just 2-0 while the Tigers, Sooners and Gators are 3-0.

"USC still has to be the favorite to win the title," said Boyd, who trails only George Smeader in the PHL's overall standings.

"They have offensive balance and, in my opinion, the premier defense in the country.

"LSU is my No. 2.

"They embarrassed Virginia Tech (48-7) and if they embarrass South Carolina this week, they'll be making even more believers out of people.

"Oklahoma is right on USC's toes, but they haven't played the same caliber of non-conference opponents.

"Miami is not the usual Miami, so I don't give as much weight to that (51-13) blowout."

Johnson lives in Omaha and was in Lincoln last weekend for Southern Cal's 49-31 triumph over then No. 14 Nebraska.

"USC is very, very good," Johnson said.

""They're even bigger and faster when you see them in person.

"It was pretty clear Nebraska couldn't keep up."

Johnson likes the Sooners and Tigers for the same reason: solid defenses.

"This could be (Oklahoma Coach Bob) Stoops' best defensive team," he said.

"LSU also has a very strong defense."

Aside from the fact Florida has "been there, done that," Johnson is impressed with the way Gator players hold Coach Urban Meyer in such high regard.

"They play their hearts out for this guy," he said

Florida meets Mississippi this week as -23 point chalk.

The "Big Four" are laying double-digit lumber: OU is giving 20 points to in-state rival Tulsa, Washington State is getting 27 from USC, LSU is giving 16 to South Carolina.

not everyone feels that way. if you look at the polls, LSU received a bunch of 1st place votes so that alone proves that not everyone thinks USC is better than LSU. secondly, a lot of Y!Answers users think LSU is better than USC.

instead, i would say that a majority thinks USC is better than LSU.

they are both strong teams, and at this time, there are arguments for and against each team being #1. but it's early in the season. LSU could be ranked #2 for the whole season and still get into the national championship game. so does being #1 right now really matter? c'mon now, it's only the start of week 4

The season is 3 games old! Relax! Just keep winning and you'll be in the title game. Who cares if you're ranked #2 right now? Who cares if polls are established preseason? The BCS poll is what matters and that doesn't come out until much more football has been played. If that poll comes out and you're in third, then you would have a legitimate gripe, but do you really think that's going to happen? I might add that Oklahoma was every bit as dominant as LSU has been back in 02 before they got smacked 55-19 by SC. Jan. 8th is the proving ground, not the AP Beauty Contest.

Haven't you noticed how the teams that play USC keep moving up in the ranks after mediocre wins over unranked teams? Look at CAL, they've moved up six spots since preseason. The only ranked team they played was Tennessee and we all found out that Tennessee was over-ranked to begin with. Nebraska was moved four spots from their initial rank with their mediocre performances over weak teams. USC played against a defense from Nebraska that Stanford could have ran through. Hopefully USC and LSU will both make it to the title game so they can finally see what playing all those weak teams have done for them. They have given them a false sense of greatness just like Ohio State found out last year when they played Florida.

I can't agree more. Which is why I wish they would get rid of pre-season rankings, because they totally screw up the entire BCS system (which is Sh!t anywyays).

LSU (like you said) has totally dominated every team this year. And what has USC proved (except that they are the media favourites)?

Everyone knows that the Rankings are based upon Media hype and previous season(s) sucess.

Sooner than later the whole world will find out that USC is totally overrated, and John David Booty isn't anything but hype. I guarantee it!

USC is nothing but a media team. they are highly overrated and Texas proved that. put them in a real conference like the SEC and see what would happen. LSU is the #1 team.

ESPN did a poll and every state except oregon and california had LSU as #1, but it doesn't really matter. Less hype is good for LSU.

I agree. USC is not better than LSU. They'll find that out soon enough, however.
