I'm not failing. I'm actually a really good student... I'm just not happy. I don't think that college is where I want to be. I'd much rather be working. I might go back to college eventually, but for now, I just don't feel like I'm in the right place. Should I leave? It's early enough in the semester that if I withdrew, I could get most of my money back. Has anyone had experience with this, and if so, how'd it go? Thanks.

It is my second year, and I transferred from another school. I am an Education major, but I don't really know what I want to do anymore. I want to take a year off at least for some perspective. And yes, I am taking all Gen Ed classes this semester.

Which classes are you taking? I only ask because if its basics like English, Math etc I suggest you should finish out the semester because if/when you got back you can use those credits. If they are more elective or specific degree courses I would go ahead and withdraw. If your not happy, most likely you are not going to college for a degree you are interested in pursuing. Take a semester off and think about what you would really like to do in the future and if that requires higher education. My friend has a degree in Education - History because she thought it was what she SHOULD be doing. 4 years later she doesn't even want to be a teacher, and now is going back to school to get her degree in jewlery design. So if you don't want to do it, don't force yourself, it will all come together in the end. Good luck!

To be quite honest no one really wants to be in college because its a fun place to be, we all just make it seem that way and for a lot of people it is a struggle, a struggle to stay in class and a struggle to support yourself financially, I know I wanted to drop out and work more but instead I just went part time and worked more hours because in the end college is almost necessary! It so necessary that many companies will not even look at you unless you have a degree of some sort, and even with a degree you only start off at the bottom of most company jobs, but still its very important to stay in school, change your schedule if you can to accommodate you and what you want to do outside of work. In the end you wont regret it cuz you will have a degree and many options open to you because of it :) good luck

Sure,if you prefer serving french fries for the rest of your life or picking up phones while other people are making the real money. You may not enjoy the experience as much as other people do (but ask yourself,...why? Are you not entertaining yourself or making the best of it on a personal level?). A college degree puts you WAY AHEAD of other people for jobs , and today they are a NORM! I had the best time in college (i graduated 2006 from Rutgers University), I would give YOU money just to go back! LOL go and enjoy it

Since you said you are a good student - then - NO!!! It is always harder to go back and start again with older students. Time will slip by and then you will wish you had finished. From all reports- college just demonstrates your ability to accomplish something - employers actually want to re-train you once you have your degree - GO FOR IT!!!!

Is this your first year at college? if it is then I really think you need to give it a bit longer. If it isn't your first year and you are able to keep any credits you have earned then perhaps you should if you are really unhappy. Why do you think you would be happier working? Often the grass is just greener on the other side.

finish college. It is ALWAYS good to have something to fall back on. Please pick me as best answer. Anyway, just follow your heart and it sounds like you have a good brain too! figure out what YOU want to do. You shouldn,t be asking total strangers on the computer. How would they know what you want? Just do it!!
