I have 3 large tomato plants in my front yard. They have all alot of tomatoes on them, but there all still green. The tomatoes are huge, but not red yet.Since summer is pretty much over(i live in Seattle), will they still turn red?Or will they die off from lack of sun?

As long as there is no danger of frost, leave them on the vine to ripen. If you anticipate frost or freezing temperatures soon, pick the fruit and allow to ripen off the vine. The cold will cause blighting of the tomatoes, making them unedible.

One of the triggers for tomato plants to go through their blooming/fruiting cycle is the amount of sun they get during the day. In spring leading up to summer, the days are getting longer, and that is when the plants develop their stem, leaf, and root systems. After summer solstice, the days begin to get shorter. This causes the plants to go into their blooming and fruiting cycle.

If the tomatoes are very big now, they should start to turn red soon. Leaving them on the vine allows them to continue picking up nutrients and sugars as the plant starts to die off. This makes the fruit much more flavorful and sweet than if you picked them green and allowed them to ripen off the vine.

They should turn red soon. If they don't turn red in a few days, pick them and leave them on the counter.

You need to pick them and put them on your windowsill to ripen..it gives them a greenhouse effect. They will soon turn red.
