Algebra is of IMMENSE importance! Seriously. I can't say that I've ever used factoring, but the ability to form equations from problems you face is important. The most basic areas are say I want to start my own business. If I put in 2k now, and then make 10$ profit off of each sale, how long before I get my money back? Then add in interest accrued if the first deposit was a loan and then figure that out. If you want to do well in business and become a manager or start your own business, then these are the necessary classes.
Algebra
Geometry (if you do construction)
Statistics of business or psychology
Financial math

I've only used calculous a couple of times in my business.
