Yes you definatly need to make an appointment with mental health. You may have obesessive compulsive disorder OCD, or anxiety. It is treatable. You also sound like you have some depression going on. Tell your counselor at school you need to see mental health, and they can get you the local number I am sure, if your mother won't do anything with it. Try talking to your mom again also and let her know how serious you are. In the meantime, keep talking about your feeling and problems and try to surround yourself with people who care and can be supportive of you. The worst thing you can do when feeling like this is be alone. Please do yourself a favor and let your mom know now how you feel, or you can also even call your local police department annonymously and ask them for the number to mental health. I found the number 1-800-547-0495. Please call this number to get some help

Go see a counselor... the same one or a different one. It is not uncommon to try out many counselors until you find the one that you feel comfortable with. Being comfortable with your counselor is very important. If you are uncomfortable you will not be able to open up and he/she will not be able to help you. I think you also need to sit down and talk openly with your mother. Tell her what you are worried about, she might be able to help put your mind at ease. Just know that what your going through is normal, and no matter what you are feeling now, don't do anything drastic. For all the worrisome/ bad things in the world there are positive/ good things. And it is silly to worry about things that may or may not happen in 50+ years. There's nothing you can do about that stuff! You can only make the best of and enjoy now! You're young, and you have your whole life ahead of you... take up a sport or hobby that will help you immensely. Good Luck!

True, there is much in this world to worry about. The only problem is we are limited about what we can do about these problems. Since you say you're an atheist I'll respect your view point.
Recognize there are things we can do, like helping the elderly, the poor, etc in that way we are making a difference. Knowing that you can effect other people's lives for the better can decrease some of your worries.
Find intelligent and rational friends during this period of your life can help you with accepting that we can't on our own change the whole world.

Just try not to worry about things that aren't worth it. Why worry about being abused if you are not? If you actually start to get abuse then start to worry about it. But if it's not going to happen or is not happening at the moment then there's no point. Same with global warming, death and the end of the world.
College and career are geniune worries and just talk to like your counsellor or your mum about that.
I worry about things sometimes too but I try not to worry about things I have no control over. Because if I really was going to get abused then I'd want to worry about it at the time and not before it happened. Otherwise you waste your life so overstressed.
It's natural though. It's hard not to worry in this world, so much in uncertain.
