It's an ancient greek symbol. It has half a moon with two stars ALWAYS on the left side (many believe these are the two moons of Mars). When the moon and stars do this, it means Mars is very willing to cause bloodshed on people, therefore, an excellent time for battle. This is why there is a pattern in the ancient Greek wars. In conclusion, :D means war and fighting.

its a giant smiley face with the teeth showing... sometimes it signigies laughing or smiling really hard. but if you want it to work on AIM you should do it like this... :-D ... but the way that you have it is fine because everyone gets the meaning of it.
