With no over-drive? You got about the same mpg city as you do highway because at highway speeds your rpms were very high. Depending on the way you drive, 11-16mpg

I had a 70 LS-6 Turbo Hydro SS Chevelle with 355 gears which got 18 on a good day with 103 octane Sunoco gas. That was the highest octane street gas avalable those days.

They used to get up to 25MPG, depending on what car they where in and if it had a 2 or 3 speed automatic or a 3 or 4 speed stick shift. They used high compression engines and leaded gas that used to be 110 octane.

They didn't really need over drive. The speed limit was 55mph, and the cars often had high (numerically low) gears in the rear end.
