I was so sorry to hear today that Robert Jordan passed away. Not onyl was I sad for him and his family though, I am davastated about the Wheel of time series. I'm a huge fan of the series (although I'm only on book 3), but this is awful news for fans. Does anyone know anything about plans he had concerning the publication of book 12? Did he plan ahead in case the worst happened so that the story could gte finished and published?

Yes he was working on it feverishly. About a week ago he took 2.5 hours to tell his wife and a close reletive the entire story. There are many notes and recordings, they will finish it.

My friend whom I introduced to the Wheel of Time series years ago to get over her depression just celebrated her birthday last sunday. When I broke the news and told her Jordan died on her Birthday, boy was she bummed : P Anyway, I've read from a Jordan interview in an article at his Dragonmount site last year that knowing he was sufferring from a terminal disease, he had taken measures in case he died before finishing the book. Basically, the story was finished in his head, he just hasn't finished putting it on paper yet, but he has left an outline of the major plot points and has dictated a lot of information regarding the contents and even appointed people to finish the book for him before he underwent major surgery. This was last year, so my guess is, the book is either just about finished or already finished, it just needs editing and additional tweaking. Anyway, he has stated before that the series ends at book 12 which he had titled "Memory of Light". Although who knows, maybe the publishers gets it in their heads to drag the book out to volume 13, you never know what they might think of now that Jordan has joined the Wheel, maybe he'll even appear at Tarmon Gaidon when Mat blows the Horn of Valere : P

I just heard about this an hour ago and it devastated me. I knew he was sick, but I had hoped for the best for him.

I was going to ask this same question in the future, I thought that now may be to soon.

From what little I have heard he outlined the last book and there will be closure. There are rumours that it will not be out until 2009, but until his family or publisher make a statment about it you can't be sure.

My best wishes to his family.

In the article that I read, it did not say anything about what's going to happen with book 12. I certainly hope that someone can put something together, so the series can finally be closed.

You have just ruined my entire day. Don't worry, I don't shoot the messenger. Usually.

That is truly very sad news for all fans of Mr. Jordan's writing.
