Well, honey, bless your heart! I remember taking castor oil to try to induce labor with my second baby. Didn't work! My mom said she tried it also and it didn't work for her either. If your doctor approved it, ask her to write a prescription. I haven't seen it on the drug store shelves in years!! Maybe castor oil is an old wives' tale, but if so, many of us thought it would work. The main thing it does is make you have a big bowel movement and is not as "dangerous" as laxatives when you are pregnant. Good luck!

Is your doctor more "seasoned" (aka old)? I work at one of the most progessive hospitals in the country, we specialize in high risk. We have over 10 clinics that house over 150 doctors that deliver at my hospital - and NONE of them recommend using castor oil for self-induction.
I'd get a second opinion if I were you. Castor oil is too big of a risk, not to mention it is totally not effective. You're just going to make yourself sick, at best. At worst, you'll have more serious complications that might lead to a c-section.
Sorry if it's not the answer you're looking for, but it's the truth that is commonly accepted by just about every physician and midwife - except yours. Good luck, whatever you decide!

I'd say that your doctor is extremely irresponsible considering that using castor oil can seriously dehydrate you and nothing worse for labor than a weakened mommy to be who is too weak to push forth her child.
It most likely won't do anything but make you vomit and sh!t your little heart out. Though this may increase your chances of starting labor, a sick momma is hardly the thing a newborn needs.

Eeew...I thought castor oil went out with the 1800's. Here is a good article to read:

Are you SURE your doctor approves? I'd certainly get a second opinion. Your own life--as well as the life of your unborn child--depends on YOU.
Please take care, dear...
