Not really. Usually, martial law is declared during an emergency, and only in the area impacted by that emergency. Something pretty horrible would have to happen across the entire nation to justify taking an action like that. Plus, to enforce that we'd have to bring most of the troops back from Iraq, which the President has been disinclined to do.

Never, there no way for the US government to declare martial law. A Governor can if an emergency situation and only for a limited time.
I think its called the Hobbs Act, that prohibits the use of US active duty troops for martial law in the United States. Governors can the National Guard and the state police only.

It's certainly a possibility, but highly unlikely. If you know about the Rex 84 program, it's been a possibility since Reagan was president. Some would argue that we are already under martial law, because the military has been helping the police do its work for about two decades

No. Martial Law is not a possibility for at least another 2 years. Not to say that's what I want at all, but I don't see it happening before then. If the government were to try something like that before the populace was prepared to accept the consequences, we would go immediately from Martial Law to Anarchy. There aren't nearly enough law enforcement officers in the WORLD to contain an agitated American populace, so any attempt at militarizing an American city would pretty much fail instantly until the population has become so conditioned as to accept militarization without so much as a second thought. As bad as things are today, I see that as being at least two years off, whether or not we experience another attack...hope this helps...

No, it is not a possibility in the foreseeable future, either.
There is a higher probability that every Democrat is going to wake up tomorrow in love with George Bush than there is for martial law to be declared anytime soon.

Only answering: Do you understand what Martial law is? Have you looked at what it takes to declare it. Have you looked at what it takes to enforce it? What is the national emergency that you are hoping for?
Do you really expect a qualified answer on here?

THe Shrub gang has been trying to institute martial law since 9/11/01 and they have yet to be successful. I do NOT believe it will happen, because they don't have the resources to do it, and the sovereign militia will not put up with it. Shrub's days in office and his cronies as well are seriously numbered.
