Should I have left my Gourd plant in? It's September. The blooms just have developed little gourds. But it's getting bitter cold at night and mornings. Live iN Northern Utah. So I just pulled the plant out. And was mad it myself as I saw these little gourds. It was fun so watching it grow.
What's a better way for such a vigorous vine to plant? On a trellie or against a fence? For next year so I know better. Thanks.

Yes, you must have planted too late. Most gourds take about 100 days to reach full maturity. It sounds like yours still had a month or so to go until they would be ready, and they do freeze pretty easily. Gourds do well on the ground, but will also grow very well on a trellis or fence. Unless you are growing the bigger varieties, because some of them can get too heavy. The main advantage that I've seen to growing them on a fence is that they do not get any spots from sitting on the ground, and have a deep color all over.
Hope this helps
