I'm 18-1/2 weeks pregnant. The morning sickness has gotten better, mainly due to my prescription for Zofran. I was given the medication at around 10 weeks because I couldn't keep anything down at all. I've attempted to stop taking it several times. Every time I try, I get really sick, if not the same day then the next. I can't focus on anything when this happens, and I'm always calling off work because I can't leave the bathroom. I spent most of the day today vomiting, and it was too late to take the medication anyway - it came back up undisolved. I feel horrible to keep medicating the problem, but the doctor says it's in my best interest. Now that I've felt my baby moving, I suppose I am less worried about taking it. Also, no one has actually used the word "hyperemesis," but I'm starting to wonder...Does anyone suffer from this and have to control it with medication? What was the outcome?

As for my weight gain...in the first trimester I lost 15 pounds. At my last visit I had gained about eight back. Mind you, this was not possible before I started taking Zofran. I tried all the other options, faithfully...some things helped, but nothing really worked, and I was losing too much weight and not getting enough fluid. I've already been the ER once for dehydration, I really don't want to go back.

Don't feel guilty for taking the medication. Hyperemesis can cause premature labor which you don't want. I was hospitalized for that in my 8th month with second child. Take the meds and relax.

I would'nt take any drugs, just in drugs just in case... here are some tips that may help, good luck..

Tips to relieve morning sickness
The tips below may help reduce morning sickness.
Eat small meals throughout the day so that you're never too full or too hungry.
Avoid rich, fatty foods.
Avoid foods with smells that bother you.
Eat more carbohydrates (plain baked potato, white rice, dry toast).
Eat saltine crackers and other bland foods when you feel nauseous.
Try gelatin desserts (Jell-O), flavored frozen desserts (popsicles), chicken broths, ginger ale (nondiet), sugared decaffeinated or herbal teas, and pretzels.
The iron in prenatal vitamins can bother some women. If you think your morning sickness is related to your vitamins, talk with your doctor and he or she may change your vitamins.
Wearing "acupressure" wrist bands, which are sometimes used by passengers on boats to prevent sea sickness, may help some women who have morning sickness. You can buy the bands at boating stores or travel agencies.
If these tips don't give you relief from morning sickness, your doctor may have other ideas. Keep in mind that morning sickness doesn't mean your baby is sick.

I know from experience. With my first daughter I was sick the whole 9 months. I was also prescribed something but I cannot remember what it was. Before the pills I would try anything not to get sick, smelling lemons in the morning, crackers before even getting out of bed, I mean everything, nothing worked. MY daughter was fine you have nothing to worry about. Your child will be fine. Just hope it gets better I was even puking while I was pushing.

I was also a major barfer. I had to take something to control it. The morning (all day!)sickness may go away in 3 to 4 months. But you may be sick all thru your pregnancy. The vomiting should stop even if you are still feeling sick. It helps to keep something in your stomach. Nothing greasy.

I'd like to know what you've gained thus far. I didn't have it that bad....but nibbling, constantly was the only way for me to get over the nausea. Saltines did not work for me I carried around baby carrots or graham crackers. And nibbled on them none stop. Along with ginger ale.

well i wouldn't take any medication for nausea only because i have only heard bad things from it. you are pregnant girl. you just need to make sure you are getting LOTS of fluids because you are going to dehydrate yourself from all the throwing up. HANG in there and eat saltine crackers. good luck and feel better.

My best friend's last pregnancy was like yours. She got a shot from the doctor's office...it was like...B-12 or B-4 (a vitamin) something like that. It helped her a lot. I would ask you doctor about that.
