Just bought a laptop today from futureshop. Here it is http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10089806&catid=25314&logon=&langid=EN

The laptop supposed to have 80 GB of Hard drive but once I turned on the laptop and in My Computer, in the C:\ drive it says 22 GB free space out of 32 GB?? There is another drive, D:\, it says 33 GB free out of 33GB. Combine them together theres only 65 GB of Total size??

Can anyone explain this?

**Another thing it also says on the laptop that it only has 766MB of Ram memory, when it supposed to have 1GB RAM (1024MB)??

The disk is easy enough, the 80 GB disk is partitioned, there may be a 8 or 12 GB recovery partition, plus your two 32/33 GB disks, all on the 80 Gb disk.

Memory doesn't sound right, Sometimes your video card will borrow some memory, but 258 MB is extreme. If you have 3 x 256 MB memory sticks, (or 256 and 512) that would be 768 MB. Might want to talk to futureshop

Some nitwit thought they could make the computer faster by restricting the partitions to 32GB and keeping the cluster size down, but that hasn't been true since Win95. You probably have some unpartitioned space too. Unless you have a disk with all the drivers and a copy of Windows, you'll need something like Partition Magic to get all the disk space in one 80GB partition.

Hi, I recommend that u call up the manufacturers or the company u bought it from and tell them the problem. SInce ur laptop is new I doubt there could be a virus all ready that doesnot allow Windows to show the exact size. Windows 2000 and above support more than 1gb ram so they should detect it. There is also a possibility of fraud from the place u bought ur laptop from.
Good Luck!

Your hard drive is partitioned. The C drive runs your operating system and progs, the D is for storage. Hard drives are rated at 1000MB per gig but the OS reads them at 1024 per gig so they always show it as smaller--even more so on a partitoned drive. Youre seeing only 766MB of ram because your OS(Vista I bet) is reserving the rest to run your system.
You should see all 1024 in bios.
