It matters a whole lot! As both the 250 and 300 hp. 327's used AC-43's. Both the 195 and 220 hp. 283's - AC-45's. The 4 cylinder and both 6 cylinder motors used AC-46N' s. The 409's used 43N's
The inital timing on the 4 cylinder was 4 degrees BTDC.

When selecting plug wires Moroso and MSD are top shelf picks.
MSD and Standard caps and rotors have more dialectric strength than dime store black caps and rotors, plus they have brass inserts in the termanals to prevent carbon tracking. Check the top distributer bushing if it's a 6 cylinder motor. If you have a cast iron V8 distributer make sure the gap is no more than .004 between the shaft and the top of the housing. If it's an aluminimum housing .006 is the magic number.

The dwell angle is 31 - 34 degrees on the 4 and 6 cylinder motors. 28 - 32 on the V8 engines.

Fuel pump pressure on the 4 and 6 should be 3/1/2- 4 1/2.
'' " " " " all 8 cylinder motors 5/14 - 6/1/2.

Today there are platinum and irridium spark plugs which outlive the old out - dated AC Delco part numbers. Depending how hot your ignition system is you can cettainly take advantage of these longer lasting plugs.
