Not having the title is the deciding factor of how to dispose of it. You cannot simply "have it towed" or sell it without a title.
You must contact your local police and initiate the abandoned vehicle process. After so many days, you can legally sell it or have a vehicle towed or the police may impound it and tow for you.
You could also file for a lost title and then sell it but it sounds like more effort than is worth for a broken down vehicle.
You could get scrap metal price (about 200 bucks for a midsize) once you can legally have it towed. Junkyards are supposed to be legally bound to have the title or abandoned vehicle paperwork.

There have been a lot of good suggestions, and practical advice on the process.

I'll just add an idea not already mentioned.

Most fire departments need vehicles for training purposes. They often take cars to practice techniques used to extract accident victims or extinguishing fires. This can be very helpful to a volunteer fire company. Contact your local fire chief and ask if they are interested in these vehicles.

Your son will most likely be eligible to deduct the book value of the car from his reported income, although this depends on where you live and what his income situation is like.

You can get a copy of the title from Motor Vehicles. Then check your yellow pages for junk yards. They often tow for free and make up the cost selling the still good parts. If they are your son's vehicles and he isn't approving it, call your local police station to find out what you are allowed to do as vehicles are regulated.

In most areas you can call a junkyard to remove the vehicle. In most cases you can get $50 bucks for it and they come to pick it up. I had an old geo metro I had scrapped and I didn't have the title either. they gave me $50 bucks for that piece of garbage and didn't even ask for a title. Call the local junkyards.

It relies upon on how undesirable her credit rfile would be -- low credit score can wreck a existence financially. in case you and your sister incredibly do no longer care approximately any workplace work of any type, i could probable only get rid of any VIN numbers and serial numbers (some are on the engine and interior vehicle booths) with a torch gun or some thing and then only sell off it at lots or PUBLIC land.

In every city they have junk yards that will take them without title, some come and pick up the vehicle. Or you could go through your state capitol and file for a lost title

okay if he doesnt have the title, you really cant sell it to anyone that has intensions on driving it, but you could send in for loss of title. Or sell it as a parts car. or sometimes you can take it and have it smashed without the title and even get a lttle money for it!!!

Call your local Junkyard & they might come & get if for you, Sometimes they will pay you for it as well. My dad did the same thing to my brother & made $40.00 off of it & told him that was the rent for hogging the driveway for the past year!

(We did not a a title either)

if you are in the UK phone your local council. mine provides a free of charge disposal service for old vehicles - this is to prevent them being abandoned in the streets.

alternatively if you can find the paperwork for them a scrap yard might give you some cash for them.

OR (an after thought here) donate them to your local college so trainee mechanics have something to work on.

Donate it to a charity that takes cars in as a form of donation. Its a win win all around you get a tax write off and a charity gets some money. Best of luck
