Dick Gregory is a 60s or 70s comedian turned social/civil rights activist. He also became a vegetarian, then a fruitarian. Last time I saw him on TV, he looked in poor health. His most famous quote I can remember: "If Democracy is so great, why is the US going all over the world shoving it down people's throats with guns?"
