You can do it, but it's illegal in most states. So don't throw the muffler and Cat away, you'll need them when you have to do your emissions testing.

Bad for the environment but the car sounds great, doesn't it? Most of the time (if you took your catalytic converter out) you get a gain of 10-25 horsepower. In some cases, I have heard this can INCREASE your gas mileage...but you will notice that yourself. I have a 1991 Eclipse and the car runs great with straight pipes

no its not bad but depending on the vehicle that you have and whatever inspetions you have could cause it to fail. If you have a diesel then you can just go straight but if you have any other gas powered vehicle then you need the catalytic converter but not the muffler, to pass any inspections.

It is not bad for the car at all however most if not all states can fine you rediculous amounts if they realize the catalytic converter has been tampered with.
