My employer is telling me that I have to use my personal time for time off due to a death in my family. Isn't there any kind of law that employers have to abide by in instances like this? Please provide documentation to support your answer. Thanks!

This is an employer decision. There is no law requiring it. Most union employers allow 3 days paid leave for funerals of immediate family. This is achieved through collective bargaining. I lived in Ohio for 35 years and all but one job was union, and the only one that didn't pay it was non-union.

It might be under the Family and Medical Leave Act but your company has to be a certain size for it to apply. Just do a search on FMLA.

No. If your employer does not give it to you, then you have to use your vacation days. Sorry
