Hello. I got caught up in Roses several months ago and was able to purchase a Striped Rose from the previous 'Uncommon Rose' co. I am having a bit of trouble getting him going though. This was several months ago, i would hazard to say around April or March. I acquired several other general themed roses(Tropicana, Mirandy....) locally and they are doing well. The Painter's Palette I purchased was around 6" high with tiny twiggy branches about half the width of a pencil and he is still around the same. I lightly fertilize him (about 1teaspoon rose fert. every 1 1/2 to 2 months) and water well. He gets full sun but at first we only gave him a little more than half day sun (I was afraid his soil would get too hot here in Texas). I treated with Ortho Spray for Roses (Fungacide, and Insecticide) every 2-4 weeks. He is potted in a lg. gal container. He sprouts several leaves, holds them for a while then they get sick and drop away. Each time I am sure he will not make a return, he does.ThankU

Where in TX? Very likely your rose is stressed. If it's been very humid or hot lately it could very well be stressing your rose. Just keep giving it TLC and it should pull through. If you have a place then your rose would probably do much better if you planted it in the ground. Also, your plant is still small because it is It's probably just too young. If you purchased from a breeder then you probably have an own root rose which take a little longer to get going. However, it will be stronger and healthier in the long run. I purchased 5 own root roses this last spring and although they have grown, they are not a whole lot bigger. Since you haven't had it very long then I would suggest a little patience and special care regarding the heat. I would also like to suggest that you will eventually need to get your rose in a very large container if you are not going to put it in the ground. Average sized roses need a container the size of a half barrel or 25 liters. Roses absolutely love full sun, but can tolerate as little as 6 hours.
Good Luck

Ortho Spray for Roses can be hard on new growth especially when it's hot, and it doesn't seem to otherwise be working, so unless you're certain your rose is getting ill from something OSfR is supposed to work on, I'd try something else.

If it's a transpiration issue, and a number of people here from TX have talked about how hot it's been there lately in their questions, then maybe spritz the young leaves with horticultural polish.

I take it you don't have the Tyler Roses...for Texas, I would suggest these as they will grow all over Texas..be sure and have them in full sun..but, they can take a lot of water as we have had this past year in North and East Texas...
I don't know what hybrid your rose is...but, take from me...get some Tyler Roses...you can look them up on the internet I believe...However, since I am part of the Tyler family, I already grow these and have for over 40 years....
