The worry I would have about that first name is the immense possibility for teasing from other boys...just keep in mind that kids with unusual names usually don't appreciate them for several decades...

i don't care for salter but ames is okay for a middle name what about matthew ames? but it is up to you if you like the name than go for it :)

Salter just doesn't even sound like a name to me. Ames, Iowa? That's my immediate reaction. Sorry if I'm brutally honest, but it just sounds too out there and made up.

it sounds Amish to me and no i would not use it.no offense to the Amish either it is just a name i do not care for.maybe Samuel Amos or Amos Samuel instead?
