The worry I would have about that first name is the immense possibility for teasing from other boys...just keep in mind that kids with unusual names usually don't appreciate them for several decades...

i don't care for salter but ames is okay for a middle name what about matthew ames? but it is up to you if you like the name than go for it :)

Salter just doesn't even sound like a name to me. Ames, Iowa? That's my immediate reaction. Sorry if I'm brutally honest, but it just sounds too out there and made up.
