How would you define infinity to a bright and enquiring 7yr old mind? His understanding so far is- "Infinity is the highest number and it would take forever to get there". What do you say?

I would tell a 7yr old this: Think of ANY number you can. "Infinity" is that number which is always BIGGER. =)

Infinityy does not have an ending.

Infinit lines have no ends. It can not start at a point, because you may create the possibility to increase. That is not logical.

Infinity can not grow.
So when you shall give us a model, let the ends pass both sides of the sheet of paper.

The same logic may be used on volumes.

This creates a problem in the discussion of the space.
Some talks of its infinity, and some tell it is increasing very fast.
Therefore there is still room outside and may be we can not say the space is infinite.

Can we talk about several infinities? What is the sum?

You know, I find it hard to explain the concept to people much older than 7. I'm impressed that he is thinking about it, though.

Infinity is more of a concept than a number. Perhaps you could tell him that it's the place where numbers end, although that implies that numbers actually HAVE an end. You could tell him that it's the number of times zero goes into one, but that might fly over his head. I suggest taking him outside on a dark clear night, pointing at the vast sky, and saying "INFINITY!" It might not completely wrap it up for him, but it would certainly give him something to think about.

tell him: see how far you can count up to and anything beyond that is infinity...you could maybe add that as he gets older he will learn more numbers so infinity will get higher up...hope that helps...
