My 2 month old daughter is most content in her swing. When she cries I pick her up, feed her, change her and do other activities, but the majority of the day she likes to be in her swing. Can this cause brain damage, vision problems, behavior problems or any other issues that anyone might be aware of?

My doctor told me that it can delay babies skills, ex. crawling or walking. They need tummy time/play time as well. I would just use the swing for naps.

Try tummy time, dancing with her, just laying her on a blanket on her back or under one of those infant play gyms. While it won't harm her it offers no stimulation at all. Maybe use a bouncy chair on top of the dining room table so she can watch you.

The swing may have contributed to your nephew's death, but it is rare for that to happen. A friend of my parents had their grandson in his infant seat and they had the clip too close and it cut off his airway. As long as the harness is not too tight it should not cause a problem.

I'm not an expert, but I SERIOUSLY doubt it. My son loves his swing too, and even sleeps in it for part of the night. As long as you're doing other activities with ehr and it's not a 24 hour a day thing, then she will be totally fine. Just make sure you give her tummy time, and interact with her as well, talk to her, sing to her, etc. For tummy time, a boppy pillow, or one similar to it is great.

You're doing just fine.

* For the person who told you it caused SIDS or whatever, thats not true. SIDS happens when a baby just stops breathing. it can happen ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. A doctor could be holding your baby in their arms, and it could still happen. Letting her spend alot of time in her swing is not going to cause SIDS! It doesn't prevent development as long as you're doing other activities as well, so please don't listen to people telling you that. As long as she gets tummy time, interaction with you, etc, it's not a big deal.

Nope but just keep an eye on her and she will be fine. = )) And the Sids or sudden infant death syndrom could have happened any where. And even though it is most dreadfull the swing was not the cause.

My 7 month old nephew died in a baby swing, they called it SIDS, but his head hung down and prevented him from breathing in his sleep.

No, never heard of any problems like that. The motion is probably very comforting to her.
