Using Castor oil to try to induce labor is one of many Old Wives' Tales you'll find surrounding pregnancy. The intended purpose of Castor oil is for use as a laxative. What will most likely happen if you take it is you will experience diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and/or cramping, which is what some say is the theory behind taking it. Supposedly, sometimes, bowel cramping will set off uterine cramping which may lead to contractions. Unfortunately, dehydration is a risk when taking Castor oil and a dehydrated mom-to-be can begin to have contractions. However, once this is discovered at the hospital and you are rehydrated, the chances are likely your contractions will stop or will be unproductive. It is suggested that a woman who goes into labor after taking Castor oil was likely ready to go into labor anyway and would have done so without taking it. Some studies have shown a correlation between women who take Castor oil and an increased incidence of babies passing meconium in utero. When this happens, the baby runs the risk of aspirating the meconium filled fluid in his/her lungs which can cause infection and breathing complications. Not all women who take Castor oil have babies who pass meconium before birth, but the studies do indicate a possible connection. Though slight, many women choose not to take Castor oil because of this possible risk to the baby. The end stage of pregnancy can be especially difficult for most moms. Lots of stress physically on your body plus the impatience of wanting your baby to be here already, you are sooo tired of being pregnant. It does seem like it'll last for ever, but when you think you can't go one more day, all of a sudden you'll be in labor.

I was in your position about 3 weeks ago. I wanted the baby out already! So, I decided to take castor oil after hearing that it induces labor. I took it Saturday around 5 pm and had my baby Sunday at 7:42 pm. It works! I just took 3 table spoons full mixed with 7up. Contractions (very mild) started around 8 pm and I checked into the hospital at 8 am.

Ps. the baby is fine and healthy... no ill-effects from this.

I would not. Obviously the youngster continues to be in there for a motive. It is specific if you're late. But to do it every week forward for no motive is kinda useless. I can simplest let you know how magical and distinct it's to enter exertions on you possess. I did not get the threat with my first 2. my daughter was once 10 days overdue and my son had a center arrhythmia. So I was once triggered with each. But my 3rd exertions began on it is possess with my water breaking. IT was once an overly intriguing revel in that I would not alternate for some thing. So as anyone who has performed it each approaches, I could advocate you simply allow nature take it is path and allow your frame paintings as it is intended to. It might be anything you'll under no circumstances overlook. I am no longer speaking approximately the discomfort. :)

I wouldn't take Castor Oil... but that's just me. I was induced with my first child. Went in at midnight on a tuesday night (wednesday morning) - and had my baby Thursday morning. So.... sometimes inducing isn't fun... and they will induce you if the baby is in danger OR they will give you a C-section.

best advice?
Talk to your doctor. voice your concerns...
good luck!
