Yes and no. Coolant is generally specified as a blend of antifreeze and distilled water. Pure antifreeze is 100% an un-cut blend of Dex Cool or other recommended antifreeze. Now, It is possible to purchase 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water if you don't want to bother blending your own coolant. The trouble is that antifreeze companies charge us the same amount for a 50/50 gallon of antifreeze as100 % pure antifreeze. I strongly recommend buying the 100 % for this reason: If you were to flush and drain your system there's a large portion of pure water leaft trapped inside the radiator, block and hoses. It's to your advantage to re-fill at least *half the total capacity of your cooling system with 100 % antifreeze first. If any additional space is left after ideling your motor for 10 minutes simply fill the radiator and coolant recovery bottle with distilled water. This way your assured of having freeze protection down to -35 -45 degrees below zero.
If you screw around with 50/50 pre mix you are never sure of the low temp protection. because of the water left in your motor after a flush.

Anti-freeze just does what it says in the tin, it protects the system from freezing. It normally comes "neat" and needs to be diluted in the right proportions according to what temperatures you expect. You've bought ready-mixed coolant which usually does not only that but also helps protect the system from corrosion - very important. It may not protect from freezing down to as low a temperature as specific anti-freeze could, but is more than adequate for UK temperatures. Being ready-mixed it doesn't need diluting.

Sort of. The pure stuff in the bottle is antifreeze. When you say coolant, you're talking about the 50-50 water/antifreeze mix in your cooling system..
