What does the name "pookie" mean? Is this a term of endearment?

I don't have any idea what it means, but I know several couples who use "pookie" as a term of endearment. Personally, I'd feel silly calling someone pookie, so I don't use it myself. ;)

Pookie is like baby talk. Many couples enjoy this as an endearment. Though I am unsure of it's origin, the term usually gets me thinking of the cat, Garfield. Garfield discovers a teddy bear in a drawer and describes it for a couple of frames in rather distasteful ways. At the very end, he smiles and says 'I think I'll name him Pookey'.

yes, it is a term of endearment, athough it doesn't have any particular meaning, it's just a silly-sounding name some people use.
