Try moving the cable in the back "Monitor" of the computer .
Else open up your PC and remove and re-connect the video card . Also could be a damage VGA connector on PC or VGA card .

Do you get any video when turning on your computer (ie: computer bios or xp loading screen). I had a problem a while back where it would show the bios on booting but then the screen would go blank. I replaced my video card, motherboard and RAM. Turned out something on my hard drive went corrupt and could only be fixed with a reformat of windows.
If your computer turns on and you have to video to begin with it would either be your video card or motherboard. Do you get any kind of beeps from the system speaker. If you get no beeps but the computer appears to be running (fans on, hard drives spinning, cd drives working) the motherboard is dead. If you get beeps with everything else it is probably the video.
If you don't have computer skills I reccomend you take it to a friend or professional who does.

Well the no signal points to four items Video card or its cable, (most likely) Hard drive(if you hear it spinning or feel vibration when you touch it dont assume its good run the software utilities from the hard drive manufacturers web site to test the drive) ram or cpu.(if you have onboard video disable it in your bios) To check the video card just remove it and install an old pci card and swap out the old video cable with one from the other monitor. To chek ram , remove it and mark one with a felt tip pen and mark the slot it came out of ,blow slots clean; clean the inside of your case now,(this will give your ram time to discharge=purge=flush) reinstall your memory in opposite slots and run memtest from your 31/2 floppy drive. Try booting your xp disk and let it run if you get video until the repair option comes up. Hit R key and use the repair utilities.

Try replacing your video card. If is built into the motherboard, add a video card to the mother board. It should find the new card and simply follow screen directions. This usually takes care of the problem, if not, call HP service.

sounds like your show screen is over heating and is shutting off immediately to guard it. you could try utilizing a can of compressed air (purchase it in any hardware/computing gadget keep) and clean your computing gadget show screen's air vent holes by ability of blowing air to clean out the dusts and dirt that's clogging it. and make helpful once you place it back, there is area for air ventilation.

if you have a video card, replace it with a junker or if you have intergrated video(the blue port on the back of the motherboard) plug it in there and see if it works(when booting press f8 and choose vga mode and see if it works.
if its intergrated video on the motherboard, just buy a video card.
and if you dont know how to do all this, take it to a repair shop.

double check to see if the cable is properly connected on the pc side, you might need a new monitor cable. also, check the pins in the connection to see if any of them or bent or missing. that will affect the signal.
