I have had both. For my first car, my dad made me get a new car that was not made very good. It was a cheap piece of junk that was worth less than what I owed the bank for it and I had a hard time selling it. That is what I get for listening to my dad. I now choose used cars that are made better and I have been much happier. I can usually find nice cars at good prices.

Even though I can't drive, I vote for the second choice. If the car is a good make, it is way better than a crappy make. You need a car that you trust, and that you will be safe with on the road.
