Yeah, its the highest common factor. It's basically the highest number that two seperate numbers can be divided by. So the HCF of 12 and 8 would be 4 because it's the highest number that 12 and 8 can be divided by.

take number 12 and 27
both can be divided by 3 and no higher number.
Then hcf is 3 for the numbers 12 and 27.
Take more ocatually: 42 and 144
42= 2 x 3 x7
144= 2 x 3 x 24= 2 x 3 x 3 x2 x2 x2
Higest common factor 2x3=6

In mathematics, the greatest common divisor (gcd), sometimes known as the greatest common factor (gcf) or highest common factor (hcf), of two non-zero integers, is the largest positive integer that divides both numbers without remainder.
The greatest common divisor of a and b is written as gcd(a, b), or sometimes simply as (a, b). For example, gcd(12, 18) = 6, gcd(â4, 14) = 2 and gcd(5, 0) = 5. Two numbers are called coprime or relatively prime if their greatest common divisor equals 1. For example, 9 and 28 are relatively prime.

hcf is the highest common factor of two or more numbers...so if you list the factors of 24 and 32 to find their hcf then you would list (1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24) and (1,2,4,8,16,32) respectively and you can see that the highest number that is in both lists (i.e. the hcf) is 8...hope that helps...

Yes, highest common factor.
Example: HCF(12,18) = 6
12 = 2 * 2 * 3
18 = 2 * 3 * 3
