Your first step in good make up application is good skin care. Then you need the right match for your skin. Go to marykay.com and find a consultant and email her the problem you are having and for no more cost than a drugstore you will be amazed at what the right products can do for your skin.
I had this problem for ever until I tried Mary Kay, I wasn't using the correct products or the right shade of foundation.
Good luck!

I would say if it's liquid, make sure you invest in a foundaiton brush. If it's powder~make sure you change out the applicator OFTEN!! they aren't meant to be used over and over...all the natural oils from your skin (and yes even dry skin has oils...) start to build up on the applicator and can cause a 'cakey' look.
The other thing you may want to invest in is a primer. Smashbox has some great ones, as does MAC. It just sort of lays down a layer underneath your foundation so that the foundation reacts with the primer instead of your skin. It's really great stuff, makes you look flawless!!
Good luck, hope this helps!

Try a different foundation like Loreal true match, our colorstay (i like the whipped version). Also use a sponge or a flat top stippling brush to blends out in and give a flawless look. Also it is important to make sure you're washing all your makeup of at night, exfoliating about 3 timrs a week, and washing your face twice daily. Also another thing to help your skin is using a primer before you apply your foundation. I personally like Rimmel London's fix and prefect pro (i like #2 in the blue cap). This will give a nice, clean, smooth canvas to stay with, and will make everything also stay on longer. Its pretty cheap and will make you look the best you can! Hope this helps! :)

Put a bit of moisturiser on, let it dry (whilst it's drying focus on your eyes or something) scrap the foundation, just put a bit of powder on with a pad, not a brush.
Or if you really wanna wear foundation but a TINY bit on a pad and spread it out evenly that way.

Use a downward motion when you apply the foundation. Applying it upward fills your pores, giving a caked look.

You probably have oily skin and your using the wrong product. The new mineral make ups are great and they look wonderful. Try one. They go on very light and they are intended to look very natural.
