No, you need a "trademark", not a "copyright".

Copyrights are very easy and affordable. I would recomend printing out the forms and filling them yourself.

First read this...
http://www.copyright.gov/register/visual.html

Then get the form here...
http://www.copyright.gov/forms/

It will cost between $35 and $60 (it has gone up to 50 or 60 recently) and will take 6 months to recieve confirmation.

Copyrights are a good way for the GOVT to get a record of your creation. It also stops anyone from copying your logo, because it is your 'artwork'. Financal settlements reguarding usage of your copyrighted material cannot exceed $250,000 i believe.

But copyrtights are by far the easiest and most affordable option for general protection.

this is the website

http://www.copyright.gov/

for the US.
you have to fill out paperwork that you can download form the net.. It doesn't cost much. 20 or 30 dollars. maybe more by now.

it could be that it would be better/more appropriate to register a trademark, not copyright it. read up on the differences.

What you really want is called a "trademark". These are registered with the Federal Trade Commission. Look at www.ftc.gov for information on the paperwork required.
