My internet connection litterally only works every other time I start the computer...
Start it for the first time in the morning - nothing.
Second try - running.
Turning it on in the evening - not working
Second try - all ok

What you need to do is see what isn’t responding when it doesn’t connect.
Next time it fails, go to start - run and type in CMD then click OK. At the command prompt type in IPCONFIG /ALL and it should show you the ip configuration for the system. If it shows information, look for the IP address of the default gateway. Type in PING followed by the default gateway ip address. This will tell you if it is your computers problem or the service provider. If you can ping the gateway you are pinging the modem. If it responds you should be able to access the internet, but if you cannot you need to review the setting of the modem itself.
If you type in the IPCONFIG /ALL command and everything comes back as 0.0.0.0 or you cannot get the configuration information, your system is the problem. If this is the case, try typing in PING 127.0.0.1 and see if you get a response. If so, the network card is responding, but cannot establish connection to the modem/router. Right click on MY COMPUTER and select manage. From the column on the left select DEVICE MANAGER and see if any items are listed that have yellow question marks or exclamation points. This could indicate that the device drivers are an issue. If so, try to reload the original drivers for the NIC (network card) to resolve the issue.
Also, try defragging the system as a severely fragmented system can cause all sorts of little issues that are hard to explain. To do this you open MY COMPUTER and right click on the C: Drive. Fro the drop down menu select PROPERTIES, and in the properties window select the TOOLS tab at the top. Under there you will find the defrag utility. Analyze the C: drive and it will tell you if you need to defrag or not.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask for further assistance.

Good luck

How old is your machine?

The hardware could be failing, your drivers could be wonking out on you, there might be something buggy going on with your machine...

If you haven't already done this, I'd suggest resetting your modem (if you don't know - the box your internet cable is coming out of, there should be a switch or button).

If that doesn't work and you have a laptop I'd take it elsewhere (friend's house or hotspot) to check if it's your internet connction, or your machine.

After that I'd have your machine looked at.

Maybe a virus. Maybe you should run spybot or adaware or both, they can slow things down a lot. Your connection might be bad. I live at the beach, the salt air is always screwing up the connections. Anyway, good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is possible. HOw old is the computer? if it is alittle old, you might want to buy a new one. Or you can spend money on fixing it, which can add up to the same amount of a new affordable computer.

Its possible you might have a loose connection, try a new cable or make sure its plugged in tight, if nothing else works.
