If I really was, I'd have to apologize and assure him that I do respect their marriage. If I really didn't mean anything serious or disrespectful, I'd still have to apologize for being 'out of line'.

I'd do the honorable thing and apologize and back off. Honestly, if you're flirting with another man's wife, and he has kids with her, then you're the scum of the earth.

Were you flirting? If so, apologize. If not... use a line you've practice so many times on women when you want to make them believe whatever it is you're trying to say.
