To sit back and allow the government to do their job, never become complacent but remain alert and not to spend my life living in fear.

dont' know if this is already being done, but if it isn't now, it should be..
would be nice if the fbi and cia got together each month and briefed each other, then hi levels meet w/ the head of each state police force, when then issue briefs to the cities and on down,
secure the borders, build stupid scanning devices large enough for cargo to pass through it or guess what? It doesnt get on the plane and never lose your vigilance.

Actually go after and kill the terrorists as opposed to invading and occupying a country that had nothing to do with militant Islamic terrorists.

Use our military and police forces at home to protect us at home. The department of homeland security is specifically charged with protecting us. I would work with DHS to ensure everything is being done based on the experts assessment of the problem. Through the State Department I would work with other countries to ensure they are alert and have plans to protect Americans abroad. I would make sure that activities of Mosques and those attnding those mosques are monitored and watched as necessary if signs of any talk of support for terrorists or terrorism. I would advocate sanctions on countries that support and harbor terrorists including those who we now claim as friends like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Since they consider us infidels on their sacred land I would leave their sacred land so they would not have that reason to hate us any more. I would promote alterative energy so we can sell it to our friends allowing those in the Middle East who desire to live in the 14th Century to do so. Were it not for their oil and the world's glut for oil they would be nothing.

Simple. A comprehensive rewrite of all religious dogma to remove any reference to killing those not of "The Faith" as a noble, holy or acceptable. Of course, we might have to deal with a consequential increase in global population and resource consumption, but we need to address those problems now anyway.

Withdraw troops from Saudi Arabia - Mecca in particular. That 'll calm alot of them down. Followed by getting out of Iraq so ordinary young Muslims don't continue to become radicalised by the US occupation or preyed upon by militant clerics. Stop backing Israel no matter what it does, even when it behaves like a "rogue state" itself.

On the homefront, we have three major obligations:
1. Secure our border and control entry. Make it an unattractive option to try to strike here because it's hard to get in.
2. Do away with the stops for law enforcement and allow the citizenry to get more involved. As Americans, we need to feel free to report suspicious activity and also be more aware of what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Tighten security at vulnerable points. I'd station a National Guardsman at every elementary school... in plain clothes... but well armed. If they target a school, they'll be in for stiff resistance. Evaluate any other vulnerable points and provide security.
3. Stiffen penalties for any terrorist activity. Eliminate the stops when it comes to punishing these people. Make conspiracy to commit such an act a capital crime. If we start rounding up Osama's cells before they can do anything and eliminate them, he can't get anything done. Offer rewards for anyone willing to infiltrate Al Qaeda cells.
On the international front, we need to do two things. Retreat and surrender are NOT them. They are:
1. Stop being naive and thinking if we leave Iraq and Saudi Arabia, they'll be nice to us. They want to kill us, you morons!Take the fight to Al Qaeda and continue to root them out and eradicate them. We're fighting an idea and the only way to kill an idea is to kill all those who radically propagate it.
2. Eliminate any potential safe havens for our enemy. This is part of the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to try to help Pakistan with their issues in the North. We can't stop pressing because right now we've got Osama and his ilk on the run.
Oh, by the way... have any of you noticed that people like Osama, who preach how it's glorious to die for your cause and recruit people to blow themselves up... never do so themselves? When is HE gonna come out of hiding and claim his virgins in heaven? LOL!
