I'm am a 14 year old French girl living in the UK and at school when we have French I am not allowed to answer questions because I'm French.
If I try to answer a question I'm threatened with detention.

What should I do?

p.s. I am also in the highest 'set' for English as-well.
p.s.s. I always get the highest score in French tests. I suppose thats one god thing.

you are fluent in french and really these french lessons are a waste of your time they serve no purpose in your curriculum and if your in top set English good for you because that will benefit wen your older and can speak 2 languages and English is one of the hardest languages to learn because of are vowels and how we enunciate other words with the same letters
does your school offer different language classes e.g
your in french but your friend is learning Spanish
if yes go to your head of year explain your problem and ask to be moved into a different set

Hi Joanna, your predicament is absurd. That's like saying no English people can answer questions in the English lessons... Is FRENCH a compulsory lesson or could you opt for an extra lesson in something else?

So, what happens in English class..do they make you answer first? I think you should get your parents to take things up with your year tutor and the Head of your school. In fact, if they start trying to pacify you, I would go higher than that.

I know we British can be @rses at times but that is ridiculous. Maybe your teacher could improvise by allowing you to help in lessons rather than answer...? Just a thought. (Tell them I said so)

Actually, it may be more of equalisation than discrimination. If you are French, you have an obvious advantage over the rest of the class and the purpose of the questions is to measure the degree of knowledge absorbed by the students. Obviously you are heads above and your answering does not contribute to the purpose of the questionnaire.

Just think that in a few years you are going to sit an exam that you will just know the answers to. Think of yourself as a lucky girl rather than victimized. Think of it as a lesson off rather than something to complain about. If your teacher starts mucking up the French however correct them constantly this will really annoy them. Haha I shouldn't be saying this.

This is not discrimination. You are French so of course you are going to know all the answers in French class. It is only fair that your English classmates get to answer the questions, as they are there to learn French, you are not. You should just sit there and be quiet.
