Have the electric company check your meter. You definately have a problem! I live close and that's unheard of. Your house would have to be as cold as the freezer to use that much

In florida as well and our Electric bill has gone way up too! But still, not that much. From last month to this month we had a rise of about $100. Since you just moved in Im wondering if your being charged for a previous occupants bill. Call the company and find out. Always check your meter and write down the number when moving into a new house guys!

If you are getting estimates every other month, your bills may seem like they are never the same each month. Do you have an electric hot water tank? This can really make your electric bill skyrocket. In addition, if you have electric heat and an electric clothes dryer, that will do it too. Those are usually the culprits for high electric bills. Also, if you have a sump pump in your basement or a water pump. That would also cause a fluctuation in your electric bills because a sump pump will only run when conditions call for it to run. There's really nothing you can do unless you can switch appliences over to gas (but that's not too cheap either these days). I would inquire at the electric company if you can get actual meter readings each month. Usually they will send you meter reading cards to fill out yourself and send in. This will at least produce a more accurate reading each month. Take care.

If you can read your meter, take daily readings just before you go to bed and see how much electricity you are using per day. Do this for a full week, then multiply that by 4. Here in the UK electricity costs about 8 pence per unit.

Ask yourself if this has happened suddenly or have you just moved in? Maybe the previous occupant left an unpaid account.

Turn off all appliances (yes all of them). Is the meter still spinning? If it is, someone else is feeding off your meter.

Maybe the meter reader misread it. After checking all these, contact your supplier.

Check and see if a neighbor is plugged into your home. People steal electricity. Change all your lights to fluorescent. Use fans and window air conditioning only in th rooms you use. Get a programmable thermostat. And call the electric company something is wrong.

My electric was $54 last month for a 1700 sqft home.

We live in Arcadia, Fl and our electricity bill has doubled over the last month as well. We seem to be paying and paying for the restoration of utilities that were storm damaged, plus fuel costs. Added together it keeps compounding. The lines were in such disrepair and neglect they were likely to fail in the event of any storm. We have to pay for their incompetance in maintaining the system. Costs of living have gone up beyond what is right and fair.

Since it was your first bill.. perhaps there were some 'hook up' fees added you weren't aware of.

We live in a 'Comfort Home' the water heater was chosen for our size house with 4 bedrooms. The furnace is the perfect size for the square footage of our home. It is thoroughly insulated. Perhaps you should check into upgrades to cut your bill.

Someone's running a grow op off your hydro line.....!!!!!

With a 2 floor house, and the AC running 24/7 in the sweltering heat with the PC running non stop our bill is only $600 for TWO months.

I cant believe it as well. Call your electric company and ask for your home to be surveyed. Or look at your past bills for a comparison for the same month last year or maybe the year after that to see why it jumped to much. Then ask your electric company WTF is up with DAT!!!

Does sound a little "high" unless your growing dope. Even if your not don't be surprised if the electric company turns you in and the DEA knocks your door down in the middle of the night. RScott
