"Afraid?" lmao... I'm more afraid of religious nutcases than anything else, if we're to talk about fear. I guess my belief is that home chores can be shared, so no need to make the man pay for my services. If you insist, I'll gladly stay home and let you pay off my mortgage and upgrade my Mercedes though :)

I would venture to guess because society is obsessed with how women are supposed to submit to the man. I have heard all my life people quote how a woman is supposed to submit to the man and only once have I heard that a man is supposed to sacrifice for the spouse. This was from a minister giving his Sunday sermon if anyone wished to debate that it was a religious person who said it.
It is makes it seem as though the sole role for a woman is to reproduce and be confined to her house, cleaning and cooking.
As another person posted, it also assumes everyone believes in the bible and everyone should have a spouse.

What makes you think it is fear? It's simply not their style. Some like being housewives, and some don't. Those that don't find other ways to get their house clean, like working a task sharing agreement with their family, hiring help, or accepting lower standards of cleaning.
Plenty of people I know acknowledge that they live in a "pigpen," but just don't care. When Steve was alive, he used to say that one of the things he liked best about me was that I did not bother him with a lot of cleaning. Now that I'm alone and have nobody to please but myself, I keep to the standard of "decent enough to be able to invite in guests on the spur of the moment." How decent that is may safely be left to your imagination.

I think it is because we are "afraid" of boredom! Try it for a while yourself and see how you like it. The monotony alone will kill you. I have "early retired" myself for the past 2 years, and have done nothing but keep house and take care of our dogs, and I'm going stir crazy. I've turned into a clean freak, which is no mean feat with 3 German Shepherds and a Doberman.
I am now job hunting just to get the hell out of here and return to sanity!

It think it's because they don't want to set a precedent. Obey one biblical role, obey them all. Next thing you know they'll have to be confined to the missionary position. That would really suck, and then again, it wouldn't (see pious role #3).

Depends on what faith she believes in doesn't it. And what is your defintion of this biblical role she should be fulfilling. The whole concept of submissive has to do with her willingness to please the husband who loves her as he loves himself- and as christ loved the church. Thus a man that loves himself- treat his wife with respect and dignity and would never have her submit to anything demeaning or demoralizing.....right is that the role u are referring?

Becuase feminism is an evil conspiracy launched by Satan and women, being naturally more evil than men, are therefore more susceptible to Satan's influence. Hello, Fuzzy Tail, Bettie Rage and Rachel, what are you doing here? If this is a raid why wasn't I invited?

"Biblical role"?
I played Mary in the Christmas pageant one year when I was a kid and I was a little nervous...is that what you mean?
Holy crap. Get a load of the bag of crazy that just stumbled into G&WS! (See above.) The Bible I've read says nothing about Satan being a female spirit (or any of that other mess he's talking about).

I was a "housewife." I should point out I was married to my husband, not my house.
Frankly, without 10 children and a farm to tend to, house work is mind numbingly boring. Not enough work to fill the day, not enough to do.

False accusations of fear are a standard tactic of feminists, so I guess you've decided to endorse their methods. Remember the phrase, "afraid of strong women"? And "homophobia"?
___This kind of wquestion is a disappointment to everybody involved.
___Besides, there are good reasons not to stay at home. And the Bible doesn't say that women ought to do so.
___One poster above mentioned how it drove her crazy. How would you like to have no one but infants and toddlers to talk to all day? This stay-at-home crap is a red herring. You don't have to be a feminist to see how it drives many women nuts. Find an intelligent issue to bring up.

Because it's boring.
Because washing dishes, ironing, cleaning floors and taking care of screeching infants holds zero interest for me.
Because I speak five languages and have two degrees and I plan to use them.
Because I have no intention to waste my life within four walls when there's a whole world out there.
Because I couldn't care less what the Bible says.
I have only one life (as far as I know) and I intend to use it well (while having fun and living up to my potential)
