Im interedted in going into the welding field and im woundering if welding with a mask on can ruin your eyesight?

it is burning the retina is what does the damage yes it can do this

Welding without a mask on will injure you more. Don't worry, they've been welding for over 100 years, and have figured out how to do it safely.
The face shield should have tinted glass, which protects your eyes from the bright light as well as the burning sparks themselves. You also need a long sleeve fire retardant coat, much like a firefighter wears. Just be sure to follow all the precautions.

If you properly use all equipment, including the visor, and are properly trained, you should be alright. There is risk involved in nearly any job. Take the courses, pay very careful attention to your instructors, they are well aware of any potential risks invoved. Injury is always a possibility, I can't stress this enough, but injury does not have to happen.

Not if you wear a proper welding helmet. I would suggest taking an English course first though. No offense.

Yes burning of the retina can occur over a period of time or else by accident by exposure to the violent ultra violet light.

No, the mask protects your eye`s.The problem is you will forget to use your mask .Piece workers do this all the time.
