My son is almost 8 months old and still isn't crawling. He tries like crazy but he just can't seem to master it. He can work his hands right, and he can work his legs right, but not at the same time. When he's on his hands his legs just lay there but then when his legs start going he lays his hands to his sides and starts scooting on his nose! However he shows a lot of interest in standing and walking. He can stand by himself for a couple of seconds before his balance goes, so its not actually his legs that give out and collapse its just that he doesn't have the balance thing down yet. So do you think he may skip crawling and just start walking instead? Should I be worried about his not crawling yet or is this normal?

I remember asking the doctor about it and she said that crawling is such a variable thing, that they don't even put it on the development charts.

Babies are all over the board when it comes to crawling, and some never crawl and go straight to walking. In fact, I never crawled either and grew up perfectly normal and very athletic. So definitely don't worry about it.

He will do what he wants to. He might crawl, he might not. It's OK!!!!
All babies are different. My daughter started flopping like a fish about 7 months, trying to crawl. It was hilarious. Hard to describe. She looked like an inch worm. She mastered crawling the right way about a month later.
Your son might skip crawling all together and walk, it's normal and ok. Let him be and have fun!!!

You have totally just described my son!! He just turned 8 mo on Friday and he just began to crawl yesterday!! Of course he has to master it still but he was crawling in his own lil way and fast too :) Like your baby boy, he does the same thing. He stands in his crib then lets go of one hand then the other and of course looses his balance and goes down. But he is now crawling. Just give him time, he will do it when he is ready. And who knows he may skip crawling and begin to walk, it happens.

Have fun!!!

Crawling isn't even a developmental milestone that doctors look at because some babies never do. It sounds like your son might and might not.... ambiguous, eh? It's totally normal though. My oldest finally started crawling around 10 months and walked at 13, and my youngest is 9 1/2 months and sounds exactly like your son. No official crawling yet but boy does it look like she wants to!

My son is exactly the same way! He will be 8 months on the 19th. He tries the crawling thing but then just sits back on his butt! He does move pretty well like this though! He is pulling up on furnature and walking around it. Maybe they will just start walking one day and skip the crawling.

All kids are diffrent. My son was crawling by 5months, my neices and nephews were slower. My youngest nephew didn't start crawling until he was 12mon then started walking within 1 month. It depends on the baby. Does he army crawl at all? You know use his arms to pull him along. Not all babies crawl some don't walk they start out running and don't quit! He will be fine as long as he seems to be hitting his other milestones in a decent time I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry.... Some babies don't crawl.. my little brother who is now 15 didn't crawl until after he learned to walk. Of course he was walking by 10 months and so is my neice. It is hillarious how we put so much stock in our children that we sometimes forget to let them grow at thier own paces. My sister constantly compares my neice to my daughter. My daughter is 9 months old she started crawling at 7 1/2 but has little intrest is walking. She can stand on her own but doesn't really try to walk yet. I wouldn't worry if I was you. I would just watch him progress at his own pace and feel grateful that he is alive so I can love him. Good Luck,

He might just skip straight to walking or he may suprise you. I thought my son would never get the hang of crawling and the next thing I know, he's zooming all over the place!

My mum has told me before that some babies do not crawl. My cousin sister only started crawling after walking well.
