They shouldn't!!!
If that affects anyone around them, then they aren't their friends. You gotta be respected for who you really are.
well done for bringing this up mate.

Because we live in the most bigoted country in the modernized world. Coming out as being gay can cost you your family, friends, job, home, car...everything. I've seen it happen over and over again. This is why still so many are in the closet.
And heaven help you if you are transgendered. Your life pretty much comes to an end. I've seen this happen twice.

Good point. They should not. If what you are offends others, ask yourself one thing... do these people pay my bills?
If the answer is no, then don't worry about it. Don't go out of your way to offend someone, that's different.
If the answer is yes, then you have the opportunity to assert who you are even at the risk of personal cost. Courage may or may not surface here. You have to weigh your options.

Social pressure, the need to fit in. Meanwhile, society wastes all of its resources trying to force round pegs into square holes, and vice versa, instead of running with the talents people have.

We should not have to, but in some cases we must. I can not be open at work, I would lose credibility and since I am in HR being closeted helps me get a lot done for my LGBT coworkers, that me being out would make more difficult.

Unfortunately, safety dictates restraint in many parts of the country. Hopefully, we'll get to a point were no one has to hide.

the only acceptable reason for people to hide is if they know that miraculously they have more than one life.
otherwise, if one has only one life to live and enjoy, probably a big fat waste of time to hide who they "really are".

So they can help the religious right feel more comfortable... they ARE the most "important" people right? We should feel lucky just to be allowed to breathe the same air...
