please help, I am in calc and forgot how to do these...
4(a+h)^2

= 4 (a + h) (a + h)
= 4 (a ² + 2 a h + h ² )
= 4 a ² + 8 a h + 4 h ²

4(a+h)^2
is four times (a+h) squared.

But, since squaring is multiplying by itself,
that's the same as four times the following
(a+h) * (a+h)

Remember FOIL?
(First, Inner, Outer Last)
That is the same as four times this:
a^2 + ah + ah + h^2

OK, the result is then:

4 * ( a^2 + 2ah + h^2 )

which is:

4(a^2) + 8(ah) + 4(h^2)
