are SMPT and POP3 used for chat technologies such as MSN, AIM, YAHOO messenger clients ......

no i am not refering email, are these technoz used for Instant Messaging ???

please help.... thanks in advance

NO they are EMAIL technologies

SMTP (NOT smpt) Simple mail Transfer protocal
POP Post Office Protocol

SMTP and POP3 are email protocols. They have nothing to do with instant messaging.

Smtp is an outgoing email server
Pop3 is an incoming email server
