Check with the British Embassy. I am assuming that they will stamp your passport right there at the airport. 7 hours may seem like a long time to be stuck in Heathrow, but it actually isn't that long. The airport is pretty spread out and you may have to take a shuttle bus to get to a different terminal and walk a long distance. Security lines can also be long. There is shopping in international terminal to occupy yourself and plenty of people watching and walking opportunities. You wouldn't get to see much outside the airport, so I wouldn't risk missing your connecting flight.

Check before travelling, it might well be that you even need a transit visa when not leaving the airport.
If you have to go from one terminal to an other you surely need a transit visa.

This site states that you need transit visa, and till now I have found it reliable.
It may depend on your residency and visa.

Ask the British Embassy/Consulate near you. The things have changed since 9/11 so make sure it is done right.
