George H. Bush signed the Family Leave Act into law. It is a federal requirement, so it would apply to any job. They do not have to pay you while you are gone, but they have to hold your job, along with seniority and benefits.

Like most jobs, they are covered under FMLA. No pay, but they cannot be fired for taking the leave.
