You can get a tank for around $10 at most WalMart stores, but even a 10 won't be enough to keep the goldfish as adults. Depending on the variety you have, they'll grow from 5-18 inches. So even if you go for the ten gallon now, you'll need to plan on upgrading to a 20 or 30 in about a year's time, considering the growth rate of goldfish.

Hi mtp, I don't know why someone has seen fit to award Copperhead a thumbs down because he's quite correct-Goldfish need massive tanks [with fitted lids & large amounts of filtration]. Anything under 20 gallons is asking for trouble. I guess I'll be getting a thumbs down too for telling the truth!!

Craigslist is really a great tool to use for this!
you can get a whisper filter from petsmart that is for a 20 gal for like $11-$13
and you may get lucky on craigs list and find a complete setup from someone in your area!

Check your local classified ads in the paper and online.
I am picking up a used 15gal with 2 x 20wat power compact lights for $10.00 in exellent shape.
I have no idea yet what i'm going to do with it but for that price I couldn't turn it down.
